Lucas leads on strategic land evaluation, masterplanning, and urban design, combining deep theoretical planning knowledge with spatial computing and practical construction pragmatism. At AM Workshop, Lucas directs the Land Diagnostic framework. He evaluates complex physical, topographical, and policy constraints, to give landowners, promoters, and SME developers clear, evidence of a site’s development capacity and residual land viability before committing capital.
With mixed disciplinary spatial design, practice research, and academic research and leadership, his background spans large-scale masterplanning, landscape infrastructure, and evidence-led site diagnostics. Lucas previously led commissions at Halcrow (now Jacobs) and ran an independent consultancy advising on landscape planning conditions, access geometry, and land appraisals.
For 13 years, Lucas served as a Senior Lecturer and Course Director at Birmingham City University, directing accredited curricula in landscape architecture and establishing the Master’s in Urban Design programme. His doctoral research at the University of Sheffield explored collaborative spatial computing and participatory urban systems.
