Perched high over a small urban garden in Kings Heath, this project is defined by a singular, strategic architectural “event”: a large picture window designed to frame the rhythmic movement of trains passing beneath the swaying canopy of the parkland behind. This intervention transformed a previously enclosed rear elevation into a dynamic canvas of light and motion.

The project involved the comprehensive re-building and re-organisation of the property’s existing footprint. By opening up the rear elevation, we replaced a disconnected layout with a warm, family-friendly kitchen and utility space. The design demonstrates that even within a constrained urban plot, thoughtful architectural planning can create a sense of expansive, “borrowed” space from the surrounding environment.
